An imposing and complex project, begun by Gianfranco Baruchello in 2017 and concluded in 2020, the Psicoenciclopedia possibile proposes in a book, commissioned and published by the Istituto dell'Enciclopedia Italiana, a sort of deconstruction of the encyclopedic system itself. In 816 pages Baruchello creates a complex system that connects through unexpected adjacencies 1200 entries (in the first part of the volume) and 200 tables of images (in the second part). The entries derive from published and unpublished writings, notes and transcriptions of dreams, while the images are the result of a long work of selection and editing starting from different sources. Baruchello thus puts to the test, this time in a book, the systems of organization (causes, effects, narrative sequences, connections) of seeing and knowing. As in all his other works, from painting to objects and installations, the encyclopaedia also breaks down the most secure and consolidated concatenations to venture into the uncertain, the possible, the "pleasure of thinking", through an ars combinatoria that does not exclude the different or the insignificant.
